1. SPRFMO Convention
The objective of the SPRFMO Convention is, through the application of the precautionary approach and an ecosystem approach to fisheries management, to ensure the long-term conservation and sustainable use of fishery resources and, in so doing, to safeguard the marine ecosystems in which these resources occur. English is the official and working language of the Commission and its subsidiary bodies; however, the Commission has arranged for various unofficial translations of the Convention and other SPRFMO documents to facilitate a wider and deeper understanding of the work of the Organisation.
